NIGERIA’S Super Eagles had their first training in London on Tuesday with no fewer than 17 players ahead of the friendly against the Teranga Lions of Senegal billed for the Hive Stadium tomorrow.
Arsenal wonder boy, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Ahmed Musa, William Troost-Ekong, Shehu Abdullahi and goalkeeper Carl Ikeme took part in the training focused on ball work.
Others who trained under the supervision of Gernot Rohr were Ogenyi Onazi, John Ogu, Moses Simon, Kenneth Omeruo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success, Tyrone Ebuehi, Chidozie Awaziem and new invitee and Hannover ’96 defender, Noah Bazee.
Also, Austria-based Kayode Olanrewaju and Sporting Gijon of Spain’s Elderson Echiejile arrived in camp on Tuesday. Chelsea player Victor Moses who had reported in camp, had to be excused to go and continue treatment for his injury in south-west London, on the advice of Eagles doctor, Ibrahim Gyaran. Moses had brought with him a report from his club that he was being treated for injury.
The three-time African champions will have their second training this morning to fine-tune strategies for the match against the Teranga Lions.
Both team last met at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt where Nigeria won 2-1 through Obafemi Martins’ second half brace at the Port Said Stadium.
Manchester City forward Iheanacho was excited by the camping environment after the training at the Barnet Ground in London.
The 2013 FIFA U-17 Most Valuable Player (MVP) through his Twitter handle Kelechi Iheanacho @67Kelechi wrote “Always good to be back with the team, everyone looking sharp and fit this morning @thenff…”
Also, Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel forward, John Ogu, through his twitter handle John Ogu @ogujohnugo, predicts a bright future of Nigerian football.
“First training session done, the future is bright for our football. Too many talents here,” Ogu writes.
The Eagles are billed to face the Etalons of Burkina Faso in the second friendly on Monday.
