As part of effort to boost sports in Oyo state, Adekunle Adebiyin Foundation has announced the donation of sports equipments worth two million naira to twelve sports in the state as the second edition of the Mama Tunde Alaso U-16 racket festival got underway at the squash court of the Lekan Salami Stadium.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the racket festival on Thursday at the Lekan Salami stadium, Chairman of the foundation who also doubles as chairman main organizing committee of the festival Adekunle Adebiyi said his desires to see sport grow in the state and beyond motivated him to make donation adding that he believe the gesture will help in the discovery of burden talents.
The equipments according to him will be given to: Tennis, Hockey, Cycling, weightlifting, athletics, volleyball, boxing, squash, judo, table tennis, basketball badminton and taekwondo.
Adebiyin while speaking on the racket festival which include; squash, Badminton and Tennis said that the festival, was aimed at encouraging young children while expressing appreciation to the sports council under the General Manager, Gboyega Makinde for putting in place conducive atmosphere assuring that he will continue to sponsor the event.
In his speech, Makinde also commended the sponsor for deeming it fit to give back to the sports that made him thus calling on more ex athletes to invest in youth sports development.
The chairman, Oyo state squash Association Engineer Tunde Adeyela, having expressed appreciation to the sponsor and the sports council, promised that the association will strive more to make the game of squash get rapid growth with more focus on you development.
The racket festival will come to a close this weekend at the squash court of Ibadan Recreation Club.
