AKIN Alabi scored the first goal of a 2-2 draw between his friends and the Oyo state Lawmakers XI in a novelty match played at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Friday.
The match organised to mark the 40th birthday anniversary of Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Naira Bet, Akin Alabi was watched by a fairly large crowd at the Salami Stadium.
Akin Alabi and Friends, dressed in all-blue, gained the upper hand in the first half of the game and were rewarded by a first goal via a penalty kick converted by Alabi.
Alabi and Friends also got the second goal in the first half but the Oyo Lawmakers came out smoking in the second half and cancelled the deficit of two goals to end the game in a draw.
After the game, Alabi described the match as a fulfilment of a dream come true.
“I ran almost 42 kilometres during the game because it is my day. I needed to do more than the others in order to appreciate the love they showed to me today. I am fulfilled.”
On his goal, Alabi said he needed to stay focussed.
“The fact that it is my birthday match did not mean I would have it easy. The goalkeeper had denied my team a lot of goals so I knew I had to hit the ball hard and high. I played it like Cristiano Ronaldo. My goal celebration like Ronaldo’s was in dedication to the player I so much watch and adore.”
Alabi also pledged to continue kitting and patronising the Shooting Stars FC of Ibadan.
“The Shooting Stars are our pride and whatever we have to lift the team should not be spared. I am happy the team has overcome the home draw jinx and are on the path to improvement. We are always there to support them,” he stated.
