ARSENAL on Saturday came from behind to claim a dramatic 2-1 victory over Preston in the FA Cup third round thanks to another late Olivier Giroud goal.
Simon Grayson’s Preston were unlucky to lose at Deepdale when they were just minutes away from a replay at the Emirates.
Callum Robinson put the Lilywhites in front after just seven minutes after he side-footed home a simple finish.
Grayson’s side should have gone 2-0 up shortly after their opener but Robinson couldn’t find an unmarked Jordan Hugill in the box.
Preston held out until half-time but Arsenal came out firing after the break.
Aaron Ramsey levelled the cup tie on 47 minutes, smashing in a fine effort from the edge of the box.
It looked like both sides would have to go head-to-head again in a replay but Giroud found a winner with just minutes remaining.
The French striker used his strength to hold off Greg Cunningham before squeezing his effort past Chris Maxwell.
It was his fourth key goal in as many games to secure Arsenal’s place in the fourth round.
