All six Champions League group stage fixtures have been played and we know that three out of four Premier League sides have done enough to progress into the knockout phase of the competition.
Leicester, who started their European campaign so strongly, knew that top spot in Group G was confirmed before their trip to Porto on Wednesday night which resulted in a demoralising 5-0 drubbing.
Arsenal’s exploits in Basel on Tuesday, coupled with Paris-Saint Germain’s inability to defeat lowly Ludogorets has seen the Gunners top Group A in somewhat surprising fashion.
Our final English candidates, Manchester City, failed to beat Celtic in both their fixtures but did enough to finish in second position behind Barcelona as Pep Guardiola’s team go marching on.
When are the Champions League last 16 fixtures taking place?
There is quite a wait for more Champions League action after this week, with the next phase not starting until February and not finishing till mid-March.
The first legs will be played over the 4-5 & 21-22 of February 2017.
The second legs are to be played over the 7-8 & 14-15 March 2017.
Who could Arsenal face?
With Arsenal hammering FC Basel in the final Group A game and PSG slumping to a draw against lowly Bulgarian side Ludogorets, Arsene Wenger tops his Champions League group for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
The impact of that result means Arsenal could face a slightly easier tie in the next round… if they avoid Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, that is.
Benfica, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid, Porto, Sevilla.
Who could Manchester City face?
Manchester City’s reward for coming second in the group? Potentially Serie A champions Juventus, last season’s finalists Atletico Madird… and the rest:
Napoli, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Monaco.
Who could Leicester City face?
A bit of glamour on offer for Leicester. Despite finishing the group as winners, the Foxes could get the likes of this lot…
Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid, Sevilla.
