Leicester City’s dismal form was compounded with a demoralising 5-0 defeat at the hands of Portuguese champions Porto on Wednesday night.
Knowing that top spot in Group G was already confirmed, Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri rested a host of first team players for the clash inside the Estádio Do Dragão… and it was noticeable.
It was the 21-year-old Portugal striker Andre Silva who kicked off the rout against the wounded Foxes, scoring inside six minutes from some poor Leicester defending from a Porto corner.
Jesús Corona, Yacine Brahimi, Diogo Jota and a Silva second resulted in a 5-0 result, the biggest margin of defeat by an English side in Champions League/European Cup history.
Despite finishing top of the group, other results haven’t exactly gone in favour of Leicester who go into Monday’s draw knowing they could face either Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid or Sevilla.
It’s in times like this we should all spare a moment for goalkeeper Ben Hamer who made his long-awaited return to the Leicester team after two loan stints away from the club…
Ben Hamer is the first English goalkeeper to concede five goals on his Champions League debut. Horror
