The Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation (NWBF) has appointed Kemi Akintunde as the national female team and national U-23 team coach.
The appointment was announced on Monday by the president, Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation (NWBF), Bukola Olopade, in Lagos, after the board meeting of the federation.
Akintunde, a former Lagos and Delta state wheelchair basketball team coach, will be assisted by Muhammed Audu, a former national team captain and Lagos State team captain.
Olopade disclosed that the appointment of Akintunde was based on merit having not only contributed to the development of wheelchair basketball in the country, but also because she has discovered many national team players.
While speaking after her appointment, Akintunde, who is the vice-president, Referees Council of the Nigeria Basketball Federation of Nigeria, having expressed appreciation to the board for deeming it fit to appoint her as the national female and U23 team coach, promised to impart knowledge to the players and ensure that the team excel at the international championship.
Meanwhile, 12 states have arrived for the fifth Victor Ochei International Wheelchair Basketball Championship which dunks off today at Teslim Balogun Stadium with about five million naira up for grab as prize money.
In a chat with Tribunesport, the technical director, NWBF, Adoki Obrien said he expected the championship to be keenly contested and that it will be an avenue to discover more talents for the country.
