Lionel Messi and Edinson Cavani are the top scorers in Europe’s highest-ranked domestic leagues for now, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s weekend strike sent him clear at the top in Germany.
Lionel Messi took his career total to 500 goals as he propelled Barcelona to a 3-2 success against Real Madrid on Sunday – and maintained his place at the top of our list of the top scorers in our most competitive leagues.
However, it is only his goals-per-game average that keeps him above Paris’s Edinson Cavani, while the player ranked third on the list – Sporting CP’s Dutch forward Bas Dost – has been scoring at a similarly impressive rate all season.
Stats accurate as of the end of the late games on 23 April
