At least 10 fans of one of Ecuador’s most popular clubs Barcelona SC have been killed and 30 injured after the bus they were traveling in overturned.
The bus was returning from an away game in the southern city of Cuenca to Guayaquil where Barcelona SC is based after a local tournament game.
“We received the news of the accident of our fans with much pain,” the president of Barcelona SC, former national goalkeeper Jose Francisco Cevallos, wrote on Twitter as the country was plunged into mourning.

It is not yet clear what caused the bus to flip over. Officials from Ecuador’s transport commission said it had all the necessary permits and had passed a safety inspection in February.
Eyewitnesses told a local channel the driver had been trying to overtake another vehicle just before the accident happened.
