Samuel Okwaraji collapsed during a World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Angola at the National Stadium in Lagos. He died on the pitch due to heart failure linked to an enlarged heart and high blood pressure.
Okwaraji was not only a footballer but also a law graduate who played for Nigeria with deep passion. His death shocked the nation and remains one of the darkest moments in Nigerian sports history.
Serhiy Perkhun was a young goalkeeper for CSKA Moscow. During a Russian league match, he suffered a violent collision with an opposing player. Though he initially tried to continue, his condition worsened, and he fell into a coma.
He died nine days later from a brain injury. His death was the first on-field fatality in Russian top-flight football.
Endurance Idahor was a Nigerian striker who played for Sudanese club Al-Merreikh. On 6 March 2010, he collapsed during a league match shortly after scoring a goal.
He was rushed to the hospital but sadly died on the way. Doctors later confirmed that his death was caused by a heart condition. Idahor’s sudden passing shocked Nigerian and Sudanese football communities.

Morosini collapsed during a Serie B match between Livorno and Pescara. He struggled to stand before finally falling unconscious. He later died in the hospital.
David Oniya collapsed just minutes into a friendly match for his Malaysian club, T-Team. He was rushed to the hospital but died shortly after.
Cheick Tioté collapsed during training with his club in China and later died in hospital from a suspected heart attack. He was widely admired for his strength and humility, especially during his time at Newcastle United.
