185 players storm 3SC trials

NO fewer than 185 players reported on Wednesday at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan for the trials organised by Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), to recruit new players  for the new soccer season.

The 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League season is scheduled to kick off next month.

Some of the supporters of the club were, however, surprised by the huge turnout of players—both budding and established players—as they faulted the decision of the management to embark on open screening.

The team which finished on 15th position last season in the NPFL will be handled this season by returnee coach Fatai Amoo who is supervising the screening with other members of the coaching crew.

Some of the new players who showed up on Thursday are Bode Daniel and Patrick Oziegbwu, both of Crown FC of Ogbomoso; former 3SC striker, Toluwalase Akindele and a member of the Golden Eaglets which won the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup, Saheed Fabiyi.

Also, goalkeeper Michael Oweru and Waheed Bello, both of Crown FC were at the stadium on Thursday to vie for shirts.

Some of the old members of the 3sc sighted at the training are captain of the team, Seun Akinyemi, Ibrahim Adewale, Joy Olubodun, Uche Henry, goalkeeper Charles Tambe, Moses James and Samuel Afolabi.

Ten of the feeders team players of the club were also at the trials as well as a teenager, Kehinde Ejima.

Speaking with Tribunesport, coach Amoo said it was not a surprise to see such a large turn out of players as the camp is thrown open to all footballers adding the list will be pruned later today.

“You can see the large number of players present here today, it is expected of course, but we will reduce the size after thorough screening today. We need fresh legs and this is a good platform because it enables us to assess a variety of players,” Amoo, a former Sunshine Stars said.
