Benin Golf Club’s Valentina Manteaw last Sunday in Ibadan, won the 16th Ibadan Ladies Open Golf Championship held at Ibadan Golf Club.
Manteaw, handicap 9, shot a cummulative 163 Gross over the two days to win the championship ahead of Alaba Adetunji of Ikeja Golf Club with 164 Gross while Rita Izoje of IGCC, Asaba, followed with a Gross score of 168.
Chief Muyiwa Omisade won the Special Guest Men title as Chief Seye Omisore finished as runner up with 98 Gross and return the Net of 85.
Speaking with Corporatesport, Manteaw, who clinched the Ibadan Ladies Open for the third time said focus and determination aided her victory.
“I played with best female golfers in the country but determination and majorly focus helped me to win. I mean playing against Rita Izoje was challenging as well as Alaba. In fact, I was also lucky because it was just one shot difference that made it happen, we all played well.
“This is the third time I had won this championship and I hope to defend the title next year if I’m around,” an elated Manteaw said.
In his address, Captain of IGC, Barrister Idowu Salami lauded the Ladies section of the Club especially the Lady Captain, Mrs Grace Bamidele Brown.
He charged the newly-elected executive committee of the Lady Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN) headed by Ekanem Ekwueme to raise the bar in terms of internal democracy, constructive engagement of young female golfers and perhaps fashion out policies including endowment fund, scholarships and more to sustain the interest of the upcoming female golfers.
Brown, in her remarks, lauded all those who contributed to make the championship a huge success.
