The week-long 19th edition of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG) has been declared open in Abuja.
Sporting Tribune reports that 13 oil companies will be participating in 13 games which include football, tennis, table tennis, badminton, chess scrabble, and swimming among others.
Declaring the games open, the senior human resource manager, Seplat Energy, Joy Obiageli Ezeoke, called on the participants to compete in an atmosphere of friendliness and exhibit a spirit of sportsmanship which she said is the hallmark of the game.
“We are expecting great competition from all the participants. 13 companies are going to be participating in 13 games. A lot of them are really looking forward to it because the last time we had was in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have been able to go this far and sustain the Games because we have to find time to relax and mingle. It is not all about work, wellness is also key in everything that we do. Even though we have different games to compete for, this is really about wellness hence the theme ‘Empower Wellness, Ignite Productivity’.
“We look forward to seeing more companies participate in the Games in the future and including more sports too. Everybody wants to give their best and I can assure you that you will see a very competitive Games and a lot of people are here to ensure that they win. And inasmuch as we are here to compete and win, we are also here to enjoy ourselves,” Ezeoke said.
