200 golfers for Seyi Makinde women support open golf championship

No fewer than 200 golfers are expected to participate in the 9th edition of the Seyi Makinde Women Support Pro-Invitational and Amateur Open Golf Championship.

The three-day tournament is billed to commence on Friday and last till Sunday December 22 at the Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Onireke GRA, Ibadan.

The tournament is expected to bring together captains of industries and notable personalities to Ibadan Golf Club as invited professionals are expected to play on Friday.

Speaking at a press brief- ing on Tuesday heralding the competition, IGC Captain, Mr Seyi Alaba, said every arrangement is in place to make the tournament a memorable one with numbers of golfers eager to play at the Open.

Alaba noted that the sponsor of the Open, Governor Seyi Makinde is doing a great job in this regard, supporting sports and engaging both the indigenes and the residents in Oyo State providing equal opportunities for everyone.

“We are proud of the Governor and we are happy to be identified with him for choosing IGC for the tournament,” he said.

The tournament is ex- pected to bring together captains of industries and notable personalities to Ibadan Golf Club as invited professionals are expected to play on Friday, while the sponsor of the tournament, Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, will tee off the tournament proper on Saturday.

Invited professionals are expected to play on Friday, December 20 while the cocktail will be held the same day at 6:00pm.

The tee-off ceremony is scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday at 6:30 am daily with the closing ceremony scheduled for Sunday at 5pm.

The initiator of the tourna- ment, Mrs Ronke Adepetu, in her remarks said, “Governor Makinde is a lover of sports. He is a philanthropist, golfer and has always supported sports development in all ramifications.

“We started this tournament in 2015 even before he became governor and this is not about politics, but his passion for women and he has been consistent ever since not minding the harsh economic situation in the country.”
