No fewer than 200 golfers will be participating in this year’s Ladies’ Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) Open Golf Championship.
The three-day tournament is scheduled for Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Onireke, Ibadan, between November 7 and 10.
According to the President and the number one lady golfer in the country, Evelyn Oyome, the tournament will attract golfers from Nigeria and other African countries, including Ugandan top player, Peace Kabasweka.
Oyome said Thursday is the Zonal Competition and arrival of lady golfers, with the hoisting of the flag/ceremonial tee off and the Zonal march past.
“Friday, November 8 is the Day One of the tournament, together with the Matron and Patron’s Cup, while the cocktail party will hold the same day at 6:00pm.
“Day two, ladies and guests (men) will feature and Annual General Meeting is schedule for evening at 5:00pm.
“Day three will feature Trustee Cup, qualified players, guests and LGAN partners who will slug it out, while the closing ceremony and presentation of prizes will be held at 3:00pm.”
She revealed that preparations are in top gear to ensure a hitch-free event as past presidents, lady captains are expected to grace the three-day tournament.
Oyome added that the tournament is a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) listed competition that attracts the best amateur golfers across the country.
According to her, “This is the mother of all tournaments in the LGAN and we will be having a lot of big names playing the tournament as the Captain of Ibadan Golf Club, Mr Seyi Alaba, will be hosting us.
“The tournament is a World Amateur Golf Ranking and we also have guest players from Uganda and the tournament will help the participants to network and connect one another, which is what sports is all about.
“Some of our patrons and matrons will grace the tournament like the Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the General Officer Commander, 2 Div, Major General Obinna Onubogu,; Yeye Desire Osunsina, the Iyalode of Lagos, Hajia Bintu Tinubu, Dr Gbenga Olowo.
“Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Prince Bayo Adeleke, LGAN Chairman and Board of Trustees, Otunba Olusola Adekanola, Abiodun Adediran Adetunji (SAN) Zed Jituboh, Emeh Ekong, Ngozi Osuhor.
“Some of the Association’s past Presidents led by Princess Joyce Nule will also be on ground for the epoch edition of the Open Golf Championship.”
