NASARAWA State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-makura has warned athletes against the use of performance-enhancing drugs that could dent the image of the state at the second National Youth Games scheduled to kick off in Ilorin, Kwara State today.
He gave the warning on Friday in Lafia during the farewell ceremony organised for the state’s contingent to the 2016 NYG.
“You are representing the state and you cannot afford to dent our image at the Youth Games. Make sure you abide by the rules of the games and make our state proud,” Al-makura urged the athletes.
According to him, Team Nasarawa will participate in athletics, badmiton, judo, karate, table-tennis, tennis, taekwondo and wrestling at the Games billed to hold at the University of Ilorin Sports Complex.
Responding, one of the athletes, Ashe Esther, thanked the governor for the opportunity to represent the state at the Games, and assured that they would make the state proud.
Tribunesport reports that the state contingent waited till Friday before departure for the Games due to financial constraint.
