D’TIGRESS forward Evelyn Akhator capped her brilliant outing in Mali as she emerged the only Nigerian on the list of the All-Star Five Awards at the 2017 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket which ended on Sunday night in Bamako, Mali.
Akhator, third overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft, was instrumental in the triumph of D’Tigress over the Lionessess of Senegal 65-48 in the final to give Nigeria their third African title after 2003 and 2005 victories.
The Dallas Wings centre emerged the top performer from the Nigerian squad in the final as she finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Akhator, 22, in her twittle handle Evelyn Akhator @akhator tweeted: “I appreciate everyone who supported me through this tournament; I’m glad I could look back and say I graduated from a great school.”
Also, Akhator has been lauded for inspiring D’Tigress to victory in Mali by the University of Kentucky Women’s Basketball Team, Kentucky WBB.
The team in its official twittle handle Kentucky WBB@KentuckyWBB tweeted: “She {Akhator}’s just a winner! Congrats to @akhator, who led Nigeria to the FIBA AfroBasket title yesterday with 13pts/7rebs!”
Meanwhile, Senegal’s Astou Traore was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) at AfroBasket 2017 as she also leads the All-Star Five Awards offered by Tissot.
The trio of Angola’s Italee Lucas, Mozambiqan Leia Dongue and Mali’sNagnouma Coulibaly complete the list of the All-Star Team.
