HEAD coach of the home-based Super Eagles, Yusuf Salisu has expressed optimism that Nigeria have what it takes to beat hosts Morocco on Sunday in the final of the 5th African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Yusuf made the declaration while speaking at a post-match conference after Nigeria secured the final ticket with a 1-0 victory over Sudan.
“For the game against Morocco, every team is beatable. If we do the right things, why not! We can beat Morocco,” Yusuf, a former Enyimba coach told cafonline.com.
Yusuf stated that the victory over Sudan was a hard-fought one.
“It was really hard for both sides. They (Sudan) pushed us to the wall especially after the red card.
“We tried to go on the counter attack and make the defence compact so as not to give spaces for them at the back. They [Sudan] had some good moments but we defeated them in the end,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nigeria will be playing in the final of CHAN for the first time [in three attempts] and Yusuf would add a chapter to the history of Nigerian football should the Super Eagles win the trophy on Sunday at the expense of the hosts. Nigeria’s best performance before now was the bronze medal won at the 2014 edition staged in South Africa by the squad coached by the late Stephen Keshi.
The final is scheduled to start at 8:00pm on Sunday at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.
