2018 World Cup: Amun harps on better tactics for Eagles

Former Super Eagles coach Fanny Amun on Thursday advised the senior national team’s coaching crew to prepare better tactics which would enhance their performance at the 2018 World Cup.

Amun told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the Eagles’ coaching crew should quickly identify the team’s weak areas and make corrections before the World Cup.

The coach however allayed fears that the Super Eagles would be placed in a group perceived to be the “group of death’’, advising Nigerians to be patient and wait for Friday’s draw.

“Qualifying for the World Cup is a thing of happiness for everybody. Having gone so far to have qualified, I think we the coaches should know what was wrong with the team in spite of the qualification.

“The coaches should now try and look inward, question themselves and assess themselves to see where the team went wrong.

“The Super Eagles have done well to have qualified amid doubts and uncomplimentary comments. But I believe that their qualification has made Nigerians to be focused on the World Cup.

“So, we should look forward to the draw. After the draw, we can now focus on the World Cup proper and ensure a better outing.

“The World Cup is not a place where we go and try. We don’t experiment at the World Cup. If the chances come, we grab it,’’ he said.

Amun however said Nigeria has the players who could help it win the World Cup.

“For example, much still needed to be done particularly in the area of goalkeeping. We need to look for the right players,’’ he said.

The coach of Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets team to the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup noted that the Nov. 14 match between Nigeria and Argentina has helped the team a lot.
