2023 Federation Cup Feat: Bendel Insurance FC distances self from alleged unpaid largesse

The management and players of Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin have distanced themselves from the online report publication with the headline ‘Insurance Players Decry Unpaid Governor Obaseki’s Largesse’.

The management of the Edo State government-owned premier league club stated that the purported report could be the handiwork of mischief makers sponsored by political detractors.

According to the secretary of Bendel Insurance FC, Mr Charles Ihimekpen in his reaction to the news, the anonymous player quoted by the reporter couldn’t have been a player in Bendel Insurance FC because all the players and officials in the Benin-based club know that there was never a time or occasion that the Governor of Edo State made any promises of any reward.

“To put the record straight, the Governor did not promise us anything but we were only informed by the chief of staff that the Governor may invite us anytime for a proper reception after our return from Asaba.

“As a matter of fact, we know that Governor Obaseki cares about our welfare and has good plans for our well-being.

“We have always been well treated, particularly during our CAF Confederation Cup engagements in Algeria and Morocco last year. We remain grateful to our sports-loving Governor.

“We want to state unequivocally that the complaint did not emanate from us in Bendel Insurance and to warn those behind it to look elsewhere and to also let them know that Insurance cannot be used as a platform to launch any attack against our hardworking Governor.

“So, whoever is behind the purported report is raising false alarms and not in the interest of Bendel Insurance FC.”

They expressed their readiness to resist any attempt by anybody or groups to use Insurance FC as a launchpad to ridicule the Edo state Government.

The 2023 Nigeria Federation Cup (Tingo Cup) winners, Bendel Insurance of Benin appeal to the Edo State Governor Mr Godwin Obaseki and the general public to disregard the purported online report published on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
