2024 National Sports Festival: Ogun is ready to host — Organising Committee

The Main Organising Committee (MOC) for the 2024 National Sports Festival tagged Gateways Games 24 has expressed satisfaction with the facilities on ground for the forthcoming National Sports Festival scheduled for Ogun State.

This is to attest to the readiness of Ogun State to host the Games.

The declaration was made after the Committee on Friday, inspected the facilities in the Gateway state ahead of the National Multi-sports event.

Led by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Sports Development, Mrs. Tinuke Watti, the first port of call for the inspection team was a visit to Babcock University, Ilisan, where they were received by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ademola Tayo.

The MOC was taken through other facilities within the school and expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness ahead of the games.

The MOC then proceeded to the State of Art Remo Stars sports complex in Ikenne, which is projected to host football and Basketball events.

In Ikenne, the MOC was received by the owner of Remo Stars, Hon. Kunle Soname who confirmed that the Basketball court will be completed before the final inspection period, he made it known that they have more than enough facilities for football games and training sessions.

Other facilities inspected were the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu which will host Rugby, the Golf Course at the Abeokuta Golf Club, Abeokuta Sports Club, MKO Abiola stadium which will host the opening and closing ceremony, as well as swimming and athletics events, and the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja for table tennis event.

At the end of the inspection, the leader of the delegation, Mrs. Tinuke Watti while speaking with the media appreciated the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his keen interest and palpable plans for the festival.

She said, “We have gone around the facilities, we are actually here to inspect the facilities to know the readiness of Ogun State to host the all-important National Sports Festival, we’ve gone around the locations, and from what we have seen, we can see that the state is ready because a lot of the facilities have been renovated and new ones are actually onboard, and they have given us the assurance that they are going to complete all the work before the festival.

“We want to say thank you to the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun for making this all-important effort because it is a lot and it’s huge, he has shown great commitment and we are very grateful to him, and we are looking forward to having the best National Sports Festival ever as promised by the governor himself.”

The festival is scheduled to hold in January 2025.
