The General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Mohammed Sanusi, has expressed optimism that the Super Eagles will do well at the 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) which will kick off in Morocco in December this year.
Three-time African champions, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, on Monday in Rabat, the Moroccan capital, were placed in Group C comprising Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania.
Sanusi, while speaking with Sporting Tribune, said the most important thing is to get out of the group and always create an enabling environment for the players and the technical crew to grind out positive results at the continental showpiece.
He added that the Federation through the coaches will continue to monitor the performance of the players to pick the best legs that will represent Nigeria in Morocco in December.
“We need to take it one after the other after knowing our opponents. The first thing is to get out of the group stage and top the group.
“But of course, on our own part, we have to create an enabling environment for the coaches to do their job which we would do. We’ll make sure we camp them (the players) just like we used to do.
“We’ll also make sure that we provide all those things that will make them the (Super Eagles) to do well. That is what we’ll do as administrators. The other aspect of course is for the coaches to do their technical work and we don’t usually interfere in their selections.
“So, these are the things we will do as a Federation and of course continue to monitor through our coaches the performance of our players home and abroad to see those that will make Nigeria proud,” Sanusi said.
The Super Eagles played all the way to the final of the last AFCON before losing to host and eventual winner, Cote d’Ivoire by 2 goals to 1 at the Félix Houphouët Boigny, Stadium in Abidjan.
The tournament will kick off with a clash between the host, Morocco and Comoros on Sunday, 21st December 2025.
