After 18 years of not participating in the tournament, Katsina H3 polo team will be making a return to the Ibadan Polo arena, as it forms an integral part of the teams which will be vying for honours in this year’s NPA Ibadan international Polo tournament scheduled to kick off on Monday.
Speaking with journalists during a press conference, tournament chairman, who is also the Vice-President of the club, Bola Adeyemi, said Katsina H3 has not been participating at the Ibadan Polo International tournament due to some issues of which have been resolved, expressing the excitement of Ibadan Polo Club to play host to the Katsina Polo team.
Adeyemi also informed that a record-breaking 18 teams will be participating, making it the highest participation in recent times. “We have 10 away teams and 8 home teams, making this one of the most competitive editions so far,” he said.
Among the new teams stirring excitement are: Port Elizabeth FB 9, Port Harcourt Indian Warriors and Team ASR, all set to challenge for the prestigious Ibadan Cup and other coveted trophies.
The Ibadan Cup, a highlight of the tournament, is expected to ignite fierce rivalries following the thrilling 2024 edition. As horses and riders vie for supremacy on the field, organisers have ensured a vibrant experience for spectators.
A good number of side attractions have been scheduled to engage both seasoned polo enthusiasts and new entrants with topnotch entertainment promised throughout the week. According to the organisers of the event, adequate security measures have also been put in place to ensure a hitch-free tournament.
