The qualifiers for the 2025 edition of Obasa Games among the six educational districts in Lagos State have begun.
The annual sporting event, created in honour of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa and for the development of sports in the state, is organised by Kings Sports International.
Previously a football affair, this year’s edition, which includes: Boxing, Table Tennis, Chess, Scrabble, Ayo Olopon, athletics and football, kicked off last Friday at Anwarul Islam College, Agege.
A statement released by Kings Sports International said six games, except football, were on Monday, November 17, held at District III, comprising areas in Lagos Island and Epe.
The statement signed by the competition’s Chairman, Local Organising Committee, Moshood Olawale AJIBOLA, stated that winners from all six educational districts would converge in Agege for the final round, adding that a total sum of N12 million in prize money is at stake.
“The District Qualification Stage, a precursor to the final competition, which is scheduled for later this month, started on Monday, November 17.
“The preliminaries will run until next week, with the schedules as follows: District III (Lagos Island to Epe): this Monday, District IV (Surulere) will be held on Tuesday, District II (Ikorodu) is slated for Wednesday, District VI (Oregun) will follow on Thursday, District V (Badagry) will be held on Friday, while District I (Agege/Alimosho) are fixed for coming Monday.”
Moshood declared that the Obasa Games’ major aims are to develop sports at the grassroots, build character, teach and develop strategic and analytical thinking, leadership skills, goal setting and risk taking among youths.
