2026 World Cup: Ghana unveils Carlos Queiroz as new head coach

Ghana on Thursday unveiled Carloz Queiroz as the new head coach of the national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to the Black Star official X handle.

The former Portugal, Egypt and Iran coach was officially introduced and addressed the media as the new head coach of Ghana’s senior national team after a brief yet eventful arrival in the country.

The Portuguese tactician touched down in Accra on Wednesday before meeting the Minister for Sports, Kofi Adams, on Thursday morning.

While addressing the press, Queiroz acknowledged the importance of winning to please everyone and some of the already existing technical team he will work with.

“Among the technical team members staying on are assistant coach Desmond Offei, goalkeepers trainer Fatawu Dauda, and high-performance coach John Paintsil,” he revealed.

Even though Querioz is one of the most decorated managers, having spent time with global giants like Manchester United, Real Madrid, the Iran national team, the Egypt national team, and the Portugal national team, he described the Ghana job as the toughest test he has faced.

“I have handled many teams in my career, but this is the biggest challenge I have ever faced,” he said.

“Since arriving, I have felt the enormous soul of the Black Stars, and that means the dreams and expectations are equally huge. I’m ready for it. Let’s do it together.”

He added: “To be part of this sports family is an honour and a privilege for me. To lead this African country to the World Cup will be an unforgettable memory in my life.”
