Judith Sirri Obomanu of Port Harcourt Golf Club and Muyiwa Adebusuyi of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) emerged victorious at the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria Western Zone inaugural kitty which ended last Saturday at the Ibadan Golf Club.

The kitty was sponsored by Zenith General Insurance.

Obomanu, Public Relations Officer of LGAN played the Net score of 69 to beat Mary Onyejose of Tiger Golf Club to the women’s title, while Adebusuyi clinched the men’s star prize ahead of Dayo Dray with 68 Net.

Nigeria’s number one female golfer, Evelyn Oyome emerged the best Gross winner with 82 Gross, while Ahmed Sulaiman won the men’s best Gross with 77 Gross.

Sirri while speaking after her victory said the modest achievement would go a long way in her golfing career.

“I played with some senior golfers, elderly ones. Initially, I thought they will be too slow for me and I relaxed and thank God my strategy worked out well at the end of hole 18 encounter.

“I came all the way from Port Harcourt to win this kitty and I dedicate it to God and then my family who allowed me to travel,” Sirri said.

Captain of IGC, Barrister Idowu Salami lauded the LGAN for celebrating one of their own, Mary Okunola whose election as Zonal vice president of LGAN West was widely acclaimed as putting a round peg in a round hole.

“Let us all join hands to ensure that golf as a sport is included in the school curriculum which will serve as an incubator for more talents to be discovered like Georgia Oboh who has been putting Nigeria on the international sport radar for multiple achievements,” he said.

LGAN President, Mrs Ekanem Ekwueme applauded Okunola saying the kitty is a sign of a new dawn at LGAN.

“Today (Saturday) we celebrate an amiable lady, Mrs Mary Okunola, the Zonal Vice President of the Western Zone on her inaugural golf kitty.

“We need to encourage more women into the game of golf especially the young ones who can make the country proud in international tournaments,” Ekanem said.

In her remarks, Okunola thanks all the participants’ just as she promised to deliver in her tenure.

“LGAN is moving forward, to my Ladies, expect bliss, harmony and love. This train is stopping by every club, so watch out for lots of golfing programmes. Let this be known to you that eventually, you would all take credit for the success,” she stated.
