Hosa Okunbo pro-am golf tourney
The Captain Hosa Okunbo at 60 Pro-Am Invitation Golf Tournament billed to tee off from February 12 to 17, at Benin Club golf course, GRA, Benin City, Edo State is expected to feature no fewer than 300 top golfers across the country.
The six-day tournament will be organised by the Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) in honour of the Benin Club patron, Captain Okunbo’s unflinching contributions to the development of golf in the section and other sporting activities in Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.
Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, Engineer Kingsley Okunbo said, “There will be a lecture series titled ‘Youth migration: Present realities and its consequences’ at the University of Benin main auditorium, Ugbowo campus, adding that two eminent speakers, Professor Benson O. Osadolor, Dean of Students Affairs, University of Benin and Director General of NAPTIP, Dame Julie Okah-Donli and to be delivered by them.
“Based on our projection, about 200 amateur golfers and close to 100 professional golfers will participate at the event. The professionals are to play for four days which is according to their standard. The prize money for them is the highest in the history of professional golf in Nigeria, and that is why they will be here in large numbers to fight for the prize running into several millions of naira.”
“Also, the caddy category will tee off on Monday through Tuesday while the professionals tournament takes centre stage on Wednesday till Saturday for their final match. Also, on Friday, the men handicap 18-28, men super veterans, men and ladies veterans as well as ladies handicap 29-36 will have their field day that will determine the winners in these categories.
“On Saturday being the final day, the guests ladies and special guests will open the day tee off by 6.30am, just after the amateur men handicap 0-17 and ladies handicap 0-28 follow in the same order, while the professional final match day tee-off immediately which will eventually lead to the closing and presentation of prizes later in the evening,” the two terms ex-captain of the club stressed.
