3SC: Ogunbote, Oyo govt parley

The Oyo State government, in its bid to ensure continuity in Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), has expressed its desire to retain the services of the team’s head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, for the next football season.

Ogunbote, it will be recalled, joined the club while it was in the relegation zone and led the team to stay afloat finishing 15th on the log with 47 points.

Also, Tribunesport gathered that Ogunbote was in talks with the management of Enyimba FC on the possibilities of joining the team next season.

Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Yomi Oke disclosed to Tribunesport that it is the desire of the government to retain the services of the coach who has saved 3SC for the second time from going on relegation.

Oke revealed that Ogunbote has submitted a blue print and proposal on the way forward for the team, adding that the government is looking forward to working with the coach again so that he can start the season with the club this time.

Oke also told Tribunesport that a meeting has been scheduled with the coach for Wednesday (today) in his office where all necessary issues pertaining to fresh contract will be addressed.

“He (Ogunbote) is very dear to our heart, fans of Shooting Stars and the players want him to stay and since he has a magic wand to deliver, we on our part will ensure he is retained as the head coach of the team.

“We are ready to give him free hand to operate so that we can record success next season,” Oke said.

Ogunbote, a former Sunshine Stars and the defunct Sharks FC handler on his part while speaking to Tribunesport expressed his desire to remain with 3SC next season if the state government is willing to retain his services.
