SIX players of Nigerian descent- Fikayo Tomori (Chelsea),Josh Onomah (Tottenham), Ovie Ejaria (Liverpool), Sheyi Ojo (Liverpool)Ademola Lookman (Everton) and Dominic Solanke (Chelsea, joining Liverpool on 1 July)have emerged champions with England who on Sunday won a historic FIFA U-20 World Cup held in South Korea.
There were double celebrations as striker Dominic Solanke was awarded the Golden Ball for player of the tournament.
Solanke scored four goals in South Korea and joins a stellar list of past winners that includes Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Luis Figo and Paul Pogba, the world’s most expensive player.
A first-half strike from Dominic Calvert-Lewin was all the England Under-20s needed to win the Under-20 World Cup final with a 1-0 win over Venezuela Under-20s.
The goal from the Everton attacker came in the 35th minute but Paul Simpson’s men were indebted to goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who saved a penalty from Adalberto Penaranda with 17 minutes left.
Sunday show was England’s first appearance in a World Cup final since 1966 and they repeated the feat of 51 years ago winning in style.
