No fewer than 600 golfers are expected to converge at Lamingo Golf Club Jos, Plateau State for the 2017 annual Plateau state governor’s cup golf tournament which will tee off on December 11.
Captain of the club, Mr Tang Dapoet who disclosed this while addressing newsmen said both amateur and professional golfers across the country will converge in the state capital for the tournament.
“The game would tee off on Tuesday 11th December at the Lamingo golf club Jos ,with the professionals and would also feature other side attractions such as children fiesta, beauty pageant and lots of entertainment. While the amateur will take their turn from December 15-17, 2017,” he said.
According to him, all amateur players competing in the tournament must bring evidence of their club membership to enable them participate in the tournament adding that clubs which had indicated their interest to be part of the tournament must also send the list of their players ahead of time to enable the organizers plan for a smooth and hitch free tournament.
The Club captain who said the tournament started three years ago described golf as a game that can boost tourism if properly harness for the purpose adding that this year tournament has been package to promote tourism alongside the tournament.
“One of our policy thrusts is tourism . Plateau is known well for tourism . Plateau is best positioned for tourism . And one thing you can do to encourage tourism is when you have a good golf course. The tournament would Showcase Plateau to the world that peace has returned” he said
