Eight schools are currently jostling for tickets to represent Kwara in the male and female categories of the national finals of the 19th Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championships.
Mr Mohood Lasisi, Kwara Coordinator of Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF), made the disclosure on Thursday in Ilorin while speaking with newsmen on the competition which began on Feb. 21.
He said that everything had been put in place to ensure that the competition which was holding at the outdoor court of the State Stadium Complex, Ilorin was hitch-free.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adesoye College of Offa beat University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) Secondary School 21-17 in the opening game in the male category.
Adesoye College, Offa and UNILORIN Secondary School are in Group “A” alongside Thomas Adewumi College, Oko and Government Day Secondary School, Okelele.
In Group “B” are the defending champions, St. Charles College, Ilorin, Offa Grammar School, Offa, Cornerstone College and Government Day Secondary School, Odo-Okun.
Five of the schools registered to participate in the female category, are Thomas Adewumi College UNILORIN Secondary School and St. Charles College.
Others are Cornerstone College and Government Day Secondary School, with the contest expected to run on a round robin format.
According to Lasisi the competition will end next week, after which the two schools that will represent the state in the national finals will emerged.
