All is now set for the ninth edition of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki golf competition, an 18 holes tournament to mark the 54th birthday of the Senate President.
Addressing newsmen in Ilorin on Tuesday, the Captain of Ilorin Golf Club, Pharmacist Layi Maliki said that the 18 holes competition is to be organised by the club as part of activities to commemorate the 54th birthday of Dr Saraki.
The competition, according to Maliki, will be played on Sunday, December 18, and will tee-off at 7:00a.m.
The Ilorin Golf Club’s captain told journalists that the Senate President is expected to perform the ceremonial tee-off alongside the Kwara State governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.
Maliki explained that the competition is sponsored by a member of the House of Representatives representing Edu, Moro and Pategi Federal constituency, Honourable Aliyu Ahman Pategi.
He said the competition is also supported by the Kwara State government.
According to Maliki, the tournament will draw professional and amateur golfers from the host club, Ilorin Golf Club, Mic-Com Golf and Country Club Ada, Kadariko Golf Club, Kainji, Ogbomoso Recreation Club and Ibadan Golf Club.
Maliki thanked the sponsor of the competition for keeping faith with its sponsorship over the years as it has become a regular tournament in the calendar of the host club while also assuring participants of a swell time.
He said the event will get on under way with a welcome cocktail for participants on Saturday, December 17, while the closing ceremony and presentation of prizes is billed for December 18, by 7:00p.m.
It will be recalled that Mustapha Maliki of Ilorin Golf Club won the 2015 edition of the competition.
