Former international Mutiu Adepoju has said Finidi George’s appointment as Super Eagles head coach marks the beginning of good things for Nigerian football.

He stated this in a video on X (formerly Twitter) congratulating the new head coach.

He said, “I want to congratulate my brother, colleague and ex-teammate, Finidi George for his appointment as the Super Eagles coach.”

Adepoju called for support from all quarters for Finidi to succeed in his new role.

“This is a beginning and I believe that it is going to be the beginning of good things for Nigerian football. I want to wish him all the best, I want to wish him all the support. I solicit support from everybody, all quarters to support him to succeed because his success is a success for Nigeria and the Super Eagles, so I call on everybody to support him and I believe that success will be for the Super Eagles,” he added.

Finidi was in charge of the Super Eagles for the recent friendlies against Ghana and Mali was appointed as the new head coach of the nation’s senior men’s national team by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday.

He spent 20 months as an assistant to the outgoing José Santos Peseiro and had been serving as the interim coach after the Portuguese tactician’s departure following the Super Eagles’ impressive run to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
