World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, said her performance at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday was close to her best as she secured her first win of the season in the series and set a new meeting record.
The Nigerian produced a 12.28s run to break her own meeting record and match her season’s best, continuing an upward trend after finishing second at the Xiamen Diamond League earlier in the campaign.
In Rabat, she finished ahead of Devynne Charlton, who was second in 12.40s, while Nadine Visser placed third in 12.47s.
The winning time of 12.28s stands as the joint-third fastest of Amusan’s career.
Her world record of 12.12s, set at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, remains her fastest performance, followed by the 12.24s she ran at the Meeting de Paris last year.
Amusan said the result reflected a near-perfect execution of her race.
She told the Diamond League website, “I am really pleased with the result. To be honest, I felt like I executed the race close to the best of my ability.
“Winning was the main objective and a Meeting Record is a fantastic bonus.
“The atmosphere in Rabat is incredible and the crowd was absolutely electrifying. I have competed here several times and the support is always special. Looking ahead, my focus is to stay healthy for the upcoming events and continue performing at the highest level.”

The performance adds to a steady season for the 2022 world champion, who won a fourth consecutive African title earlier in the year and has continued to build form across her Diamond League appearances.
The three-time Diamond League champion (2021, 2022 and 2023) remains in contention to reclaim the title this season.
