Prince Adeyemi Adeshina Adeola and Ettington Rafiu Olawale have emerged as the South-West zonal representatives for para swimming and para athletics, respectively.
The elections into the various para sports federations, held on Monday at the Media Centre of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, saw Adeyemi and Eti secure victory with six votes each.
Other officials elected as South-West zonal representatives include Abdulazeez Abdufatai Abiodun (Amputee Football), Eweje Gbolahan (Para Powerlifting), Adebowale Tomisin Alaba (Para Sitting Volleyball), and Omoyemi Gbenga Adeniyi (Para Soccer).
Speaking after the peaceful exercise, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee and South-West Zonal Director of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mohammed Haruna Maigidansanma, congratulated the winners and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them.
Maigidansanma, who had earlier encouraged delegates to vote for credible candidates, said the newly elected representatives should see their emergence as an opportunity to serve and contribute to the growth of their respective federations.

“I want to call on all the elected officers to see their election as a call to service and, as such, endeavour to do well so that their federations can excel and grow at the local, national and international levels,” he said.
He added that some former office holders who failed in their re-election bids were not necessarily rejected because they were bad leaders, but because they did not meet expectations during their previous tenure.
“They should note that some of them failed in their bid to return to office not because they are bad, but because they failed in their responsibilities while in office during their first term,” he added.
Maigidansanma also commended all delegates and participants for their peaceful and mature conduct before, during and after the elections.
