Real Madrid have ‘no intention’ of signing Enzo Fernandez

Real Madrid have dismissed reports linking the club with a move for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, insisting they have “no intention” of signing the Argentina international this summer.

In a statement released on Friday, the Spanish club said it had made no attempt, directly or indirectly, to sign the midfielder and described recent transfer reports as untrue.

“In light of the reports and statements that have appeared in recent days regarding Real Madrid C.F.’s alleged interest in the player Enzo Fernández, the club wishes to state that it has not made any efforts, either directly or indirectly, to sign the aforementioned player and, furthermore, has no intention of undertaking such a transfer.

“Real Madrid wishes to express its utmost respect for Enzo Fernández, a great footballer whose career and quality are widely recognised, as well as for Chelsea FC, a club with which it maintains an excellent institutional relationship.

“Precisely out of respect for an institution like Chelsea FC and due to the principles of institutional loyalty that have always guided Real Madrid’s actions, the club considers it necessary to categorically deny these unfounded speculations, which are completely untrue.

“Real Madrid regrets that, despite the clarity of the facts and the lack of any action on the part of the club, information continues to be disseminated that does not correspond to reality and that only contributes to generating confusion among fans and unnecessarily harming the entities and people involved.”

Chelsea yet to receive approach

Chelsea have also confirmed they have not received any club-to-club approach from Real Madrid for Fernandez.

The Premier League club are understood to value the 25-year-old at £120m if serious interest emerges but are not actively seeking to sell him. Chelsea consider Fernandez a key player under new head coach Xabi Alonso.

Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica in February 2023 for a then-British record fee of £107m after helping Argentina win the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Last season, he scored 15 goals in all competitions as Chelsea won the UEFA Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. He also remains part of Argentina’s squad at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Exit speculation

Reports linking Fernandez with Real Madrid intensified after Chelsea missed out on European qualification last season.

Sources close to the player suggested he was interested in a move to the Spanish capital.

Former Chelsea manager, Liam Rosenior, suspended Fernandez for two matches in April after the midfielder publicly admitted he did not know whether he would remain at Stamford Bridge and said he would “love” to live in Madrid.

Real Madrid’s latest statement follows a similar response issued last month when the club denied reports linking them with Bayern Munich winger, Michael Olise.

Chelsea remain confident

Fernandez’s future has been the subject of speculation in recent months following comments from the player and his representatives.

His agent, Javier Pastore, has publicly suggested the midfielder is underpaid at Chelsea and indicated that missing out on the UEFA Champions League could affect his future.

Despite the speculation, Chelsea have maintained their position that Fernandez is not for sale unless their valuation is met.

The club believe the situation can be resolved and are confident Alonso can reintegrate the midfielder fully into the squad through performances and results on the pitch.
