Borussia Dortmund break record for scoring most goals in the Champions League group stages

Sporting Tribune

Borussia Dortmund have scored more goals in the group stages than any other side in Champions League history.

The German giants fought back from 2-0 down to secure a draw at the Santiago Bernabeu in order to top Group F and became the Champions League’s top scorers at this stage in the process.

Their two goals tonight took their tally to 21 goals in the group stages – a competition record.

Dortmund are now one of only four teams to score more than 20 goals in the group stages, along with Manchester United (1998-99), Barcelona (2011-12, 2016-17) and Real Madrid (2013-14) all scoring 20 in the past.

The majority of their goals came against Legia Warsaw, who they scored 14 against in total.

Sporting Lisbon were the only side to limit Dortmund to scoring just one goal in a match.

They will certainly be a threat in the next round.
