I accept my award, but I’m not the best manager in the world ―Zidane

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane spoke about his award in a press conference ahead of his side’s Copa del Rey clash with Fuenlabrada on Thursday evening.

The French coach is yet to win the Copa del Rey with Real Madrid, so he wanted to start the press conference in front of the media talking about the possibility of winning the trophy.

The Real Madrid boss said: “It’s not a personal thing, it’s about the whole team. We’re excited to take part in this cup, just like for any other competition. And what we want to do is give it our all.

“Tomorrow we will try to play well and nothing else. Every game here, every time you put on the shirt, you play to win,” he added.

When asked about being named as FIFA’s best coach, ‘Zizou’ said: “For me, it will be difficult to be here for 10 years. I am only thinking about this season. I accept my award, but I am not the best manager in the world.

“We have won a lot of things with this team, and ultimately I am happy, I am not here to say that I don’t deserve this.

“But the questions is whether I am the best manager in the world. I would say I’m not and that’s it. I think there are others who are better and that’s it.

“If in 10 years time I’m still managing and winning, then we can talk, but at the moment no. I don’t care, I don’t want to know anything about this.

“What is important for me is to keep working, enjoying what I do and nothing more. There are others who like to talk about this sort of thing, but not me.”
