The management of Lumos Nigeria, who are community partners for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon has declared their readiness to boost the marathon with solar powering for journalists and other stakeholders free of charge.
Olufemi Ashipa, vice president, Marketing, Lumos Nigeria said the solar energy service is the organisation’s own contribution towards boosting the Marathon.
He also promised a solar system each to first 10 Nigerian men and women to cross the finish line and free wi-fi service for all participants, runners at both starting point and finishing line.
“We are very pleased to be associated with the 2018 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, undoubtedly one of the leading Marathon events in Africa.
“For us at Lumos Nigeria, our involvement aims to inspire and support the runners while empowering people through mobile electricity at work and at play; we are passionate about lighting up Nigeria one family, one small business and one community at a time, as such, the marathon connects with one of our core values, passion for excellence, hence we have decided to reward the top 10 indigenous male and female winners at the event.
“As an added sweetener, we are providing free wi-fi through the Lumos Yéllo boxes to be deployed at the Marathon; this will be available to all Lagosians at the starting point and at the finish line. This will help the participants communicate and share their most memorable moments with family and friends free of charge. This is the first time ever the wi-fi-enabled solar system is being piloted in Nigeria, as part of our long-term offerings for micro and small businesses owners in Lagos State and indeed, Nigeria,” Ashipa said.
