FORMER Minister of Sports, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, has lamented the death of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan player, Izu Joseph, who was killed at the weekend in Rivers State.
Adedoja, in his condolence message, said: “I was shocked when I heard the news of the death of Izu Joseph.” “I pray God give the family, 3SC of Ibadan, football lovers, 3SC fans club, friends and well-wishers fortitude to bear the loss,” Professor Adedoja added.
Also, chairman, Osun State Football Association, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, has expressed sorrow at the news of the death of the player.
Ogunjobi, who is also the chairman of Prime Football Club, in a statement signed by his media aide, Tunde Shamsudeen, described the death of Izu as sad, shocking, unfortunate and a huge loss to football in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
“I am shocked upon hearing the sad news of the passing on of Izu Joseph. I sympathise with the Shooting Stars family, the Oyo State government, and I am praying God to give his family the fortitude to bear the loss,” the Osun Pillar of Sports said.
Meanwhile, chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), Shehu Dikko has spoken with the grieving Pa Reuben Izu, father of the late Izu Joseph .
Dikko commiserated with Pa Izu assuring the family that the LMC will support them and also spoke to Rasheed Balogun, the General Manager of the club.
Dikko, in his message to Balogun, expressed shock and offered condolences on behalf of the LMC Board, the entire NPFL clubs and supporters.
He also charged Balogun to keep the LMC updated with information on the plans for the burial.
The late player joined 3SC in the 2013/14 season from Bayelsa United and had just completed his third season at the Oluyole Warriors.
