AFCON 2025: Peller commends Super Eagles’ gallant run

A former member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Shina Peller, has commended the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their remarkable journey and resilient performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Peller gave the commendation in a statement released on Saturday following Nigeria’s victory over Egypt in the third-place playoff.

The Super Eagles secured the bronze medal after a tense goalless encounter, edging the North Africans 4–2 in a penalty shootout.

He praised the team for restoring national pride and showcasing the undying spirit of Nigerian football throughout the tournament.

“The silver medal is a testament to the hard work, sacrifice, and unity within the squad. They stood tall against the best on the continent and proved their quality.”

Reflecting on Nigeria’s campaign, Peller also spoke about the Super Eagles’ narrow exit in the semi-finals, where they lost 4–2 on penalties to host nation Morocco after a thrilling 120 minutes ended goalless at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Describing the encounter as a final-worthy clash, the Ayedero of Yorubaland said, “The semi-final against the host country was nothing short of a spectacle, resembling a final in intensity and fervour. Both teams were desperate for victory, but fate favoured the Moroccans that day, leaving the Super Eagles without the desired outcome.”

Despite missing out on a place in the final, Peller emphasised that Nigeria’s outing at AFCON 2025 was a success, particularly in terms of rebuilding the team’s identity and competitiveness on the continental stage.

He urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support for the Super Eagles as they prepare for future international engagements.

“The Super Eagles made us proud. Their remarkable outing at the 2025 AFCON has rekindled hope and excitement for Nigerian football.

“Together, let us celebrate their achievements and look forward to even greater performances in the future,” he added.
