AFCON: Lookman’s brace sends Nigeria to last 8

Atalanta winger, Ademola Lookman’s brace was enough to send Super Eagles of Nigeria to the quarterfinals stage of the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

Nigeria defeated the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, the venue where Cameroon won their first AFCON title in 1984 with 3-1 victory.

It was a comfortable victory for Jose Peseiro side who have been getting criticism from Nigerian fans for lack of goals.

Lookman’s opener was in 35th minute of the game before double in 90th minute to give Super Eagles 2-0 win.

Nigeria will now face Angola who defeated Namibia 3-0 in the first match of the day.

Francis Uzoho played his first game after he replaced injured Stanley Nwabali in 70th minutes of the encounter.
