AFCON qualifiers: I’m surprised by Super Eagles call-up -Musa

Former Leicester City star, Ahmed Musa has revealed he was surprised to be called up by the Super Eagles for AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho.

The invitation of the Super Eagles captain generated so much controversy in the media after as he has been without a club since 2020.

According to the Technical Adviser of the team, Coach Gernot Rohr said Musa was called up to boost the morale of the squad.

Musa said “I was surprised to be invited.

“I thank the coach for the confidence he has in me and I promise to make the most of my chance,” he said.

The former Leicester City star has won 95 caps for Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Benin Republic coach, Michel Dussuyer says his side will be ready for Saturday’s showdown against Nigeria in Porto Novo.

Dussuyer’s side will host the three time African champions in 2022 Group L African Cup of Nations qualifiers encounter on Saturday.

The Squirrels are a point behind the Super Eagles and a win will boost their hope of finishing on top of the Group ahead of the neighbors.

Speaking in a news conference on Monday, Dussuyer said his side have respect for Super Eagles, but they will approach the game with everything they have.

“We have respect for Nigeria but we also have our assets. We will approach the game with a lot of seriousness and determination. We know what we have to do,On Saturday our ambition is to win. It will not be an easy task. We have hopes,” he said.
