AFCON Qualifiers: Super Eagles edge out S/Leone

Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, started his competitive debut for Nigeria on a winning note as the three-time African champions came from a goal down to pip the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone by 2-1.

The business-like Sierra Leonans registered their goal in the 11th minute by J. Camara, through a diving header that beat goalkeeper Francis Uzoho in goal for Nigeria.

Everton of England forward, Alex Iwobi, restored parity for the Eagles in the 16th minute with an assist from Nantes of France midfielder, Moses Simon.

Simon was the provider again to provide another assist for Napoli of Italy forward Victor Osimhen, to register Nigeria’s second goal in the 41st minute.

With three points in the kitty, the Super Eagles will now square up against Sao Tome and Principe in the Day Two of the qualifiers in Marakkech, Morocco on Monday, June 13, 2022.

Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, in his post-match conference said his boys played very well but expressed optimism that the team will continue to improve with each game as the qualifiers progress.

Joe Aribo while commending his team mates for the victory said the team is playing under a new philosophy saying the boys are committed to making Nigerians happy.
