Man City star Sergio Aguero has won the Premier League's January Player of the Month award
Sergio Aguero has been named as the Premier League’s Player of the Month for the fifth time in his career.
The Manchester City striker claimed the prize for January after scoring five times in four PL games.
He started 2018 by netting once in a 3-1 win over Watford, before claiming an assist as City lost 4-3 at Liverpool.
A perfect hat-trick got City and Aguero back on track with a 3-1 victory against Newcastle, then he added a stoppage-time strike as West Brom were defeated 3-0.
Aguero joins Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie on a list of PL stars to win five Player of the Month awards only Harry Kane and Steven Gerrard, with six each, have won more.
Aguero topped a poll — with a panel of experts, Premier League captains and fans casting their votes — ahead of fellow nominees Kevin De Bruyne, Christian Eriksen, Eden Hazard, Jan Vertonghen and Callum Wilson.
Twenty-nine-year-old Aguero is already a front-runner for the February prize, having scored four goals in City’s 5-1 win over Leicester last weekend.
