Less than a year after making his first-team debut, Iwobi has firmly established himself in Arsene Wenger’s strongest side
ALEX IWOBI says it is a “dream” to playing alongside Arsenal superstars Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
Nigerian international forward Iwobi made his first-team debut less than a year ago in a League Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday – but since, has established himself in Arsene Wenger’s strongest side.
The 19-year-old, whose uncle is former Bolton star Jay-Jay Okocha has started the last four Premier League matches and won the man of the match award in last month’s 3-0 win over Chelsea and has earned high praise from Ozil.
Ozil said: “He knows exactly what he can do. He isn’t scared and doesn’t hide on the pitch. He just wants to have fun playing football.”
But Iwobi is just enjoying the ride, playing with some of the biggest stars in world football.
At the NFL House opening in London, he said: “It’s a young man’s dream to play with such players. Ever since I’ve been training with them I always feel like I’m improving and I’m learning things to do.
“They always help me on and off the pitch, it helps me and does make me the person I am today.”
With Iwobi in the side, Arsenal have had a fantastic run of results, having won their last seven games in all competitions.
A win over Middlesbrough tomorrow at the Emirates Stadium would take the Gunners top of the table but Iwobi insists it is too soon for talk of a first title since 2004.
He added: “It’s early doors but everyone is in the Premier League will try and win it. We believe the strong start we’ve had and the players we’ve got we can be title contenders.”
Iwobi could also be set for a new lucrative contract just six months after signing his last £25,000 per week one in April.
