Algeria have a chance of qualifying

Despite picking a paltry one point from two games the Greens captain talked up the chances of Georges Leekens’ side making the quadrennial tournament at the expense of leaders N…

Carl Medjani has said that Algeria will not give up their Russia 2018 World Cup ambitions following their unimpressive start to the qualifying series.

The Green lost their second game 3-1 to Nigeria after commencing their campaign with a home draw against Cameroon. And the result has left them at the bottom Group B with the Chipolopolo’s superior goal difference placing them third.

“We’re disappointed to lose but we’re not giving up just yet,” Medjani told reporters.

“We still have a chance of qualifying and we will stay positive.

“Of course we knew from the beginning that it was a tough group.

“We have big teams like Nigeria and Cameroon who always seem to qualify for the World Cup, and Zambia can’t be dismissed too.

“It’s not a good situation for us because we got only one point from our first two games, but we still have enough games left to catch up.

“We play Zambia next and we can start recovering with that game,” he concluded
