Everton boss Sam Allardyce claims the club have been made to overspend to bring players to the club over the last two years.
Nearly £200m has been spent on improving the squad at Goodison Park over the last couple of years with the likes of Michael Keane and Gylfi Sigurdsson arriving on Merseyside for big money.
However the Toffees find themselves struggling in the Premier League this season and are currently six points off the relegation zone following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Watford on Sunday.
Allardyce has admitted he thinks Everton have spent too much for what they have been able to bring in but feels that is the nature of the transfer market.
When questioned if more should be expected from the players given their transfer fees, he said: ‘Yes, no doubt about that.
“But you see Everton is in an inflated price bracket because everyone knew it had got money to spend so every player they went for ended up at a certain price for Everton.
“If it was Man United it would be even more, but if it’s less than Everton it’s less.
“We are in that bracket now so we either say we pay that price and bring the player in or we don’t. And that’s what you live with today.
“Yes I would say the players need to be dealing with it more for the money we’ve paid for them.”
