Ambode commends Coca-Cola for constructing Community Sport Centre

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr AkinwunmiAmbode has commended the management of Coca-Cola Nigeria and Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC) for the construction of the Araromi Community Sports Centre, which he noted, would help improve grassroots sport and talent development in the state.

Ambode, who was represented by the state’s deputy governor, Mrs Idiat Adebule, stated this during the inauguration of the sport centre on Tuesday at Gbagada.

“I commend the board and management of the Coca-Cola Nigeria and the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) for taking up this initiative. The commissioning of this sports centre will not only serve the Gbagada community, but also join the array of world-class facility in Lagos state. I believe the development of such facility should not only be the responsibility of government but also other corporate bodies. The Ambode-led government would continuously promote public-partnership to improve social development within the state,” she said.

Also speaking, the Managing Director, NBC, Mr George Polymenakos, represented by Non-Executive Director, NBC, Mr Laolu Akinkugbe said,

“The Coca-Cola system has made and continues to make significant investment into the communities in which we operate. We seek to be aligned with the things that Nigerians care about. There is no doubt, that the passion for football in Nigeria is unrivalled on the continent and is certainly one of the strongest in the world hence the construction of this sport centre.”

The high point of the event came when Gbagada community team held a novelty game against ex-internationals – Peter Rufai, Victor Agali, Victor Ikpeba, Emmanuel Babayaro, Kikelomo Ajayi and Gbenga Okunowo, among others.
