Hibernian FC of Scotland Coach, Neil Lennon has said Nigeria international defender, Efe Ambrose has done enough to earn a recall to the senior national team of Nigeria ahead of the World Cup in Russia.
Ambrose has emerged as one of the mainstay of the defence of Hibs this season under Lennon who gave him his first shot at Scottish football while he was coach of League giants Celtic five years ago.
According to OwngoalNigeria, Lennon reckoned Ambrose has rediscovered the form that made him a firm fan favourite at Celtic before a slump in form during his final year at the club which led to his move to Hibs this summer on a permanent deal after a highly successful loan spell last season.
” I don’t know how long we can hold onto him (Efe Ambrose). That tells you the type of form that he is in at the moment. We’re hopeful of persuading him to stay but our chances still depends a lot on if he decides to stay,” the coach said.
” He should be considered for a World Cup spot by Nigeria. He has done enough to earn a recall and hopefully it will come soon. Ambrose wants to play for Nigeria and maybe that has impacted on his form for us”, Lennon added.
Hibs have 59 points from 33 matches and are fourth on the table. Ambrose started 32 of the 33 games and has registered three goals, three assists this term for the team.
Ambrose was at the 2014 World Cup for Nigeria and his inclusion could be a boost to the defence of Gernot Rohr’s side.
